YEAR END REPORT
In January 2019, Friends of Sacramento Arts was established in response to the 2018 Creative Edge Culture Plan and the #1 goal to restore arts education in Sacramento’s public k-12 schools.
Fast forward to June 2024 and Friends of Sacramento Arts is recognizing and celebrating the lives impacted, the partnerships developed and the generous first-year philanthropic investors who made this possible.

California’s Arts & Music in Schools Act (i.e., Prop 28) is making historic investments in arts education—but districts must spend their first-year funds before the upcoming deadline or risk having them clawed back by the California Department of Education.

Parents and families can play an important role in their students’ arts education. The infographics posted here can help with understanding and being able to communicate the benefits of a standards-based arts education, advocating for critical components of strong arts education programs, and becoming familiar with the guiding documents for arts education instruction.


CALIFORNIA ARTS EDUCATION DATA PROJECT
Create CA and the Arts Education Data Project developed an interactive dashboard to track arts education teachers and student participation in the arts. This data empowers parents and community members to better advocate for arts education and supports school leaders in identifying gaps and planning more comprehensive arts programs.
This interactive dashboard shows the number of Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) arts education teachers by school level, district, county, and statewide. Use it to explore your district.

LETTER FROM THE MAYOR

CULTURAL EQUITY STATEMENT
In January 2017, the Race and Cultural Equity Task Force, established to ensure that the policies and procedures of the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission are equitable and to create a new cultural equity statement, convened for the first time. Sixteen members of the public were appointed to serve on the Task Force. After six months, their work concluded with the adoption of the Arts Commission’s new Cultural Equity Statement. The Friends of the Sacramento Arts has also formally adopted this statement as a guiding principle of our work.
